pitfalls

So I'm kinda working from home this week.  I've already managed to waste the first day and a half..  Lesson learned so far:

If you want to get any worthwhile shit done; get dressed before midday goddamnit!

dolls

The doll is in your house and in your room and in your bed
The doll is in your eyes and in your arms and in your head

Inspired by Jonathan Coulton's Creepy Doll and the creepy-ass doll in my Mom's house.

I can't decide if I even like this pic.

I've been knocking around an idea for a while now and this is my first stab at it.  Decided to post it anyway as it does represent a bit of an unusual milestone.  This is the first time I've ever used post-processing to actually try to create something very different from the original image.  And the original image itself was taken from the first roll of film that I've ever developed.  Analogue and Digital both turned up to 11.

Cake

Picked up a cheap-ass second hand Canon 300.  Works beautifully with the 50mm f1.4. Still getting to grips with the new scanner.
Shot with Ilford xp2, scanned from the prints.

An update with no pretty pictures!

I took the Olympus Trip out for a spin on Sunday and shot a roll of Kodak BW400.  It was slightly unnerving, after years of shooting digital to have no idea at all how the pics were turning out!  I found myself becoming far more aware of composition and exposure, but mostly I was just winging it.

It was pretty exciting, in a nerdy sort of way, picking the prints up from the chemist (I'm still nowhere near obsessed enough to attempt developing film for myself .... although it does seem pretty cheap to get started).  And the results are; surprisingly good!  Everything is a tad over-exposed but not so much that it can't be fixed with some minor tweaking on the PC.  The focus is sharp, there's even some nice shallow DOF in places.  Not bad for a camera that's sat in the attic for the last 20 years!

Of course, now I've got to figure out this scanning malarkey!

Pics to come soon (with any luck!).

A book?

This year is all about getting my arse into gear on the photography front. I'm grabbing hold of anything that might help me get my mojo back.
This is the first book I've seen that focuses on nothing but composition so I'm hoping it'll be an interesting read, or at least full of pretty pictures for me to gawk at!
